Riverina Water Leaders share Expertise in Vietnam
Mar 30, 2024
Representatives from Riverina Water toured Vietnam in March, taking part in the next stage of a fruitful partnership.
CEO Andrew Crakanthorp was joined by Director Engineering Troy van Berkel, Manager Operations Jason Ip, and Manager Works Aran Beckett. The group flew into Ho Chi Min City first to discuss priorities with government representatives at the Australian Consulate, before travelling on to meet with representatives from the An Giang Centre for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation and the National Rural Water Supply department (NCERWASS).
The visit was the next phase of a partnership between the Australian Water Association and Vietnam National Centre for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation formed in 2019. Since formation, the partnership has produced multiple exchange visits, the most recent of which was when a Vietnamese delegation from An Giang Province visited Wagga Wagga in November 2023.
While in Vietnam the Riverina Water delegation participated in site visits, workshops and discussions aimed at sharing knowledge. Focus issues were water management and experiences regarding non-revenue water; the use of digital technologies; and options for improving water quality in Vietnamese supply systems. The events were also attended by other water supply companies from across the Mekong Delta region.
“This trip was highly valuable for all parties and we have further strengthened our previously established relationships,” Director Engineering Troy van Berkel said.
“We have committed to several action items including a standard set of steps for improving non-revenue water, sludge management options, water quality improvement options and ways to improve asset management.
“Our facilities, systems and practices in the Riverina are of a world-leading standard, and we value the chance to share knowledge that can help improve water supply standards globally. And this is a mutually beneficial partnership that has helped our staff gain a real appreciation of Vietnamese culture, especially the welcoming and resourceful nature of the Vietnamese people.”
