Meals on Wheels hits the road thanks to Riverina Water

Countless community members will continue to be provided with nutritious and delicious food each week with the unveiling of Wagga Wagga Meals on Wheels’ new refrigerated van.
The new vehicle was made possible thanks to a Community Grant of $11,396 from Riverina Water, funds from the sale of the previous delivery vehicle and a substantial discount on the new van by Wagga Motors and Renault Australia.
The new refrigerated van replaces Meals on Wheels’ older vehicle purchased in 1998.
"We are extremely grateful for the support from Riverina Water through its Community Grants Program and to Wagga Motors,” Wagga Wagga Meals on Wheels President John Craig said.
“It's the support we so willingly receive from our volunteers, community organisations and local businesses that allows us to make life more comfortable for many in our community.
“We now have a vehicle that’s much more useable than the one we had. The new van helps us provide an incredibly valuable service to those who are vulnerable in our community.”
Meals on Wheels provides 31,000 specialty frozen meals each year to local people who prefer to remain living as independently as possible in their own homes.
“Riverina Water is proud to fund vital projects such as this that make a real difference to the lives of people in our community,” Riverina Water CEO Andrew Crakanthorp said.
“Our Community Grants Program has invested $1M into the local community over the past two years, funding more than 100 projects across our supply area.
“The program allows us to fund a diverse range of projects that benefit our residents for many years to come."
The program’s next round of annual applications will open in November, with another $500,000 on offer across Wagga Wagga, Lockhart and parts of Greater Hume and Federation council areas.
