More than $600,0000 in grants awarded to our communities
Dec 16, 2020
Riverina Water has awarded $612,836 in funding to 66 grassroots projects and initiatives throughout the region.
Residents in Wagga Wagga City, Lockhart Shire, Greater Hume and Federation councils will share in the benefits of Riverina Water’s second annual Community Grants Program.
Riverina Water Chairperson Councillor Greg Verdon said the grants program provided welcome relief for many community groups and clubs after a difficult year.
“This was only our second year of the grants program and applications almost doubled from 2019,” Cr Verdon said.
“We were able to allocate all $612,836 of funding, which means we have now awarded a total of $1M across both years of the grants program.
“My fellow Board members and I are proud to be able to provide vital funding towards these 66 new projects just in time for Christmas.”
The diverse range of projects funded this year include establishing a community gym at Urana, a water tower mural in Walla Walla, a short film about floating down the river at Wagga, revitalising a 100-year-old hall in Urangeline and everything in between.
Riverina Water’s grants program will also support initiatives involving the Yazidi and Burmese communities, a number of projects celebrating First Nations culture and a range of works to improving accessibility at community buildings.
“Our program allocates funding to each of the four councils we supply drinking water to across three categories – Community Projects & Facilities, Water Conservation and Arts & Culture,” Cr Verdon said.
“This ensures we can support a range of initiatives that will have long-lasting benefits for the local communities in our 15,000 square kilometre supply area.”
The local government water utility will be continuing its Community Grants Program in the 2021/22 financial year.
