Draft strategy to keep your water costs affordable
Mar 29, 2021
A new strategy is laying out how to keep water costs affordable as the region’s population grows toward 100,000 people.
With a strong foundation of long-term planning and good financial management, Riverina Water is proposing minimal increases to water costs and reductions in other charges.
“Riverina Water’s mission is to provide our community with safe, reliable water at the lowest sustainable cost. That is front and centre of this long-term strategy,” Riverina Water General Manager Andrew Crakanthorp said.
“Our water costs have not increased in the past two years and are some of the most affordable in the state.
“A typical annual bill is about $660 and because of our strong position and planning, bills would only increase by a few dollars.
“We are aiming to save $1.3M in energy costs per year through our upcoming solar project, which helps keep your water costs affordable.
“We are also proposing to decrease developer charges over time; making it cheaper to develop land and help our region grow.”
The pricing plan is part of Riverina Water’s draft Integrated Water Cycle Management Strategy. The long-term plan outlines the infrastructure needed to maintain and develop the water supply network up to 2050.
The draft strategy has been on public exhibition over the past month, with community members able to share their thoughts until 2 April. Find out more or read the draft IWCM Strategy in full online.
